The Justice Verma Committee, whose members include former Solicitor General, Gopal Subramanium, and Justice (Retd) Leila Seth, released its report on amendments to criminal law today.

 The Committee was constitued on December 23, 2012 after the rape of a twenty-three year old student in Delhi, is headed by former Supreme Court judge, Justice JS Verma. After calling for suggestions casino online from the public, the Commitee receieved over 70,000 suggestions from stake-holders, social activists and the general public.

 The Committee also interacted with special interest groups and political parties in the process of forumalting its recommendations. The report (a copy of which is available below) makes a host of wide-ranging recommendations, from amendments to the Representation of People Act, 1951 to inserting new offences under the Indian Penal Code, 1860.

  1. Page 139 talks about the how to handle False allegation and it mentions that “Tribunal
    shall always have the option of reprimanding the aggrieved woman”…
    Just reprimanding… doesn’t make any sense. If I’m a male against whom a false
    Harassment case is filed so my personal/social/professional life gets ruined
    and after investigation it is found that it was a false allegation then just
    “reprimanding” for the woman employee… I don’t agree with that. I’m
    in full support to give required punishment to the person responsible for
    sexual Harassment but at the same time if it is being misused then that
    punishment as well should be equally harsh. Don’t we know how even Anti-Dowry
    law is being misused for any & every reason.

    My opinion is that anyone found misusing the law should be punished with the same
    intensity as the offender.
