A total of 815 homes for juveniles in the country are being assisted under the Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) of the Government of India. The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000 [JJ Act] provides for State Governments to establish and maintain, either by themselves or in association with voluntary organisations, homes for children in every district or group of districts, based on requirement. The Ministry of Women and Child Development is implementing a Centrally Sponsored Scheme, namely, the Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) from 2009-10 under which financial assistance is provided to the State Governments/UT administrations for setting up and maintenance of various kinds of homes for juveniles.
